Our Top 5 Metal/Rock Albums of 2018 (so far)
Yes, we know that 2018 is far from over and there are more albums ready to be released between the 1st October and the 31st December but we just cannot keep our opinions to ourselves!… (and we need content).
In no particular order….
5 – Machine Head – Catharsis
The eagerly awaiting album from Nu Metal titans was received with mix reviews but as it will be the last album with the current iteration of the band. This deserves a spot here as it really is a corker of an album played nice and loud.
4 – Parkway Drive – Reverence
As the UK fans get ready for this bands 2019 UK tour we am sure this album has been on repeat for many people. The band spoke about the difficulty in following up IRE but we are pretty sure they surpassed expectations with this record. Get it on, and get it on loud!
3 – Ghost – Prequelle
The Swedish outfit that is Tobias Forge and co. released Prequelle back in June and they are yet to announce a ‘proper’ UK tour to support it. Alas, they played a show at the Royal Albert Hall and they are supporting ‘Metallica’ next year in the UK. This is the first album since the legal issues that the frontman Tobias faced. It’s quintessential ‘Ghost’, full of riffs and spooky goings on!
2 – Mike Shinoda – Post Traumatic
Released only the month before bandmate, Chester Bennington took his own life, ‘Mike Shinoda’ has taken himself solo as the future for ‘Linkin Park’ is uncertain for the time being. Perhaps a test to see if he could do everything on a record as he was involved with the art direction, composing, mixing, paintings, vocals and production of the album.
1 – Between the Buried and Me – Automata Parts I and II
Cheating slightly here but ‘BTBAM’ completed their ‘Automata’ saga in July of this year. Part one was released in March and two followed in July. Famous for their wide sonic scope, these two EPs need to be listened to in order and in one go. Using synths and heavy guitar motifs, this band know how to hook an audience.
