Alter Bridge – Walk the Sky Album Review
- Released: October 18, 2019
- Label: Napalm
Since 2004 ‘Alter Bridge’ has been slaying stages across the world with their meaty riffs, complex solos and ‘Myles Kennedy’s ‘ amazing vocal range. ‘Walk the Sky’ is the sixth studio album from the Floridian band, it clocks in at just over an hour and it’s just as good as their other five records to date.
Opening up with the soft lyrics of ‘One Life’, an introduction of sort to the album the band then jump straight into the meat and potatoes of the record with ‘Wouldn’t You Rather’. Here we get that distinct AB sound with punchy riffs and that bob your head effect that every ‘Alter Bridge’ album has had thus far. Track 3, ‘Into The Deep’ is a stand out track for us. It’s super quick and catchy chorus is one that you will be singing away to yourself over and over. We also get a taste of the lovely clean tones of that Tremonti signature PRS guitar. ‘The Bitter End’ brings a slight respite the proceedings but only for ~30 seconds as those mammoth chords come straight back. Track 10, ‘Forever Falling’ sees Mr ‘Mark Tremonti’ take up lead vocal duties once again on an AB record. This track is much like the others. Huge crunchy chords with a complex vocal lines and a shredding guitar solo. Closing the album off with ‘Dying Light’ you can’t help but think that track title is somewhat ironic. It’s the final track and you can feel the ‘Alter Bridge’ journey coming to an end for another few years. The track is a beautiful sign off for the band with it’s gang vocal outro and string accompaniment.
The band has once again delivered a solid record for audiences across the globe. With both Kennedy and Tremonti heading up their own solo projects in AB downtime, it’s nice and somewhat refreshing to see and hear them come back to ‘Alter Bridge’ with fresh ideas and new riffs and yet, the album does feel familiar as it’s the same formula that has worked for all these years. The album is not revolutionary by any means but you really should add it your your heavy listening playlists…
